"If music be the food of love, play on!"
Come one, come all and join us in the fantastical setting of Illyria for TWELFTH NIGHT, a romantic comedy full of mistaken identities, cross-dressing, secret letters, the hunger for power, drinking, dancing, debauchery, hand-drumming, singing, and more! It's the Bard at his best!
Like many of Shakespeare's comedies, TWELFTH NIGHT centers on mistaken identity. A noble woman, Viola, is shipwrecked and loses contact with her twin brother, Sebastian, whom she believes dead. Viola disguises herself as a man named Cesario, and becomes a page to Duke Orsino, who is in love with the bereaved Lady Olivia. The Duke uses Cesario as an intermediary to woo Olivia. And Olivia, believing Viola to be a man, falls in love with Cesario, while Viola, in turn, has fallen in love with the Duke. Meanwhile a comedic subplot involving Olivia's steward Malvolio and her drunken uncle Sir Toby weaves in and out of the romantic storyline. Much hilarity and confusion ensue.
