Farewell, gratitude, haunted house and more
By Sue Ulland
The hummingbirds have gone south, the leaves are beginning to turn those gorgeous autumn colors, scattered frost has been reported and cold and damp days set record low temperatures. Indian summer is over and we should prepare for winter.
Farewell: A fond farewell to New Life Antiques, which will be closing its doors at the end of October. Tom and Linda Guild have run this business for four years and will now relocate to The Black Shutter Antique Shop in Leesburg. They thank all of those in the area who have patronized their shop. We wish them well.
Gratitude: Thanks to all those volunteers who participated in the week-long Ladies Board Rummage Sale, enduring record-breaking low temperatures and many inches of rain. The sale was a success despite the rain and cold.
Bluegrass jam session: The final indoor/outdoor bluegrass and folk jam will take place Oct. 30 at The Old Furniture Store in Round Hill. Doors open at 6 p.m. No admission will be charged, but donations are welcome. Food and beverages will be sold. The jam on Nov. 27 will move to The Hillsboro Old Stone School.
Haunted house: Don't forget, as mentioned before in this column, the HCA Haunted House will be Oct. 31 from 6-9 p.m. at the Old Stone School. Tickets are $5 per person, $3 for those 12 and younger. Proceeds will benefit the Hillsboro Community Association and the Valley High School Drama Club.
Ruritan fruit sale: The Hillsboro Ruritan Club is selling red grapefruits and navel oranges, either (2/5 bushel or 4/5 bushel). Orders are due by Nov. 4. Fruit pickup is Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Old Stone School in Hillsboro.
To order, call Robbie Thompson at 540-668-6147 or Ed Cutshall at 540-668-7700 or e-mail them at robbiestonypoint@peoplepc.com or edcutshall@huntcountry.com.
Birthdays: Happy birthday wishes this week go out to Alexandra Orsinger, Nicole Fitzwater, Thomas Goff, Christopher Mace, Christopher Ray, Tyler Virts, Kyle Giroux, Jamie Beamer, Cristi Gallahan and Spencer Rumfelt. Enjoy your special days!
