Paeonian Springs
Cuckoo clocks, birthday greetings, word for the day
By Betty Shiflett
The season's change is progressing: plants back inside, leaves and pine needles falling, birds migrating, crickets less plentiful, back to Eastern Standard Time. Last week we talked about bears; the week before, snakes. This week it's our cuckoo clock.
This cuckoo clock was purchased for me by Debbie Jones Neely years ago when she was in Germany. It comes from the Black Forest there. Every year, when Fall comes (maybe Spring too - I can't recall), the cuckoo clock stops working. It must be the rotation of the Earth. Finally, after about a month at rest, and some encouraging pushes of the pendulum, it starts cuckooing again. Can anybody out there explain it?
Birthday greetings Friday, Nov. 6 to Sommerstime Farm neighbor Florence Kunigas. According to my notes, Florence will be 99. Marty Riddlle's birthday is the Nov. 10. Dana and Beverly Sauer's wedding anniversary is Sunday, Nov. 8th. We wish you all many more.
Thought for the Day: "If anything is right it can be done. If it's wrong, it can be done without."
