Fruit sale, farmers market, Veteran’s Day and more

Ruritan Fruit Sale: The Hillsboro Ruritans are offering grapefruits and navel oranges for sale until Nov. 4. You can call either Robbie Thompson (540-668-6147) or Ed Cutshall (540-668-7700) to place an order or e-mail them at robbiestonypoint@peoplepc.com or ebcutshall@huntcountry.com
Fruit pickup will be Saturday, Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at The Old Stone School in Hillsboro.
Purcellville Farmers Market: Thursday, Nov. 5 is the last market of the year at the 21st Street location. It will be open from 4 to 7p.m.
Veterans Day Program: You are cordially invited to join the Purcellville and western Loudoun County community for the Loudoun Valley High School Veterans Club tenth annual Veterans Day program “Brothers and Sisters” Wednesday, Nov.11 at 7 p.m. in the LVHS auditorium. The program will feature the LVHS staff singers, wind ensemble, orchestra, sign language classes and more.
RHAC Presentation: The Round Hill Arts Center proudly presents an evening of jazz and dancing at its “Swings at Notaviva”. The concert will take place at Notaviva Winery, Saturday, Nov.14 from 6 to 8 p.m. with dancing from 8 to 10 p.m. A donation of $5 is requested. Dinner, wine and beverages may be purchased at the event.
Bluemont Dance Relocation: The winter Bluemont dances have relocated to Emerick Elementary School, 440 Nursery Avenue, Purcellville, within sight of the Purcellville Skating Rink, the former site. For detailed instructions, go to www.bluemont.org.
Dances are scheduled for the third Saturday of each month, October through May. Dance workshops for both new and experienced dancers begin at 7:30 p.m. and the dance itself begins at 8 p.m.
Purcellville Turkey Trot: Help support the Loudoun Valley Community Center in Purcellville by participating in its Turkey Trot 5K and Fun Run Sunday, Nov. 8. This year the race will start and end at the LVCC. For information about the race or to register, please visit Purcellville’s Turkey Trot.
Christmas Ornaments: The Round Hill Volunteer Fire Department now has the 2009 White House ornament for sale at a cost of $20. To purchase, please contact Cathy Rinker at 540-338-7449.
Craft Fair and Dinner: The Hillsboro Community Association will sponsor its annual craft fair Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Old Stone School. Take a break from mass-produced items and find unique handcrafted items for holiday gift giving ideas. Handmade items include fantastic and funky jewelry, hand-knit angora and other natural fiber hats, car warmers, scarves and gloves, gorgeous stained glass, pottery, historic miniatures, honey, beeswax candles, furniture, garden décor, skin care products as well as holiday items. Refuel from your shopping that day at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church’s annual turkey and ham dinner with all the fixings from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be a bake sale and local crafts for sale.
Greens Workshop: Save Sunday, Dec. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. so you can attend the HCA greens workshop to learn how to make beautiful holiday decorations for your home using fresh greens.
Daycare: Register now for preschool, before and after school care and drop-in care. The Loudoun Valley Christian Academy, located at 35834 Charles Town Pike just west of Hillsboro on Route 9, serves Blue Ridge Elementary School in West Va., Hillsboro and Mountain View Elementary School in Virginia. Membership Drive: The Hillsboro Community Association is asking for your help with its annual membership and fundraising drive. When you join or renew your membership this year you will be entitled to a 10 percent discount when you rent the Old Stone School. Membership fees are only $15 a year and are tax-deductible. To become a member, renew your membership or make a donation, complete the 2009 Membership and Donation Form and send it with a check to the address on the form.
