GeoEye named on top tech list
Dulles-based GeoEye Inc., a provider of satellite and aerial imagery, was named on Deloitte's 2009 Technology Fast 500 list last month. GeoEye was categorized as a communications and networking company that has boasted a 373 percent growth rate in the past five years. In 2004, GeoEye's revenues totaled $31 million. In 2008, that number jumped to $146 million. GeoEye is the only company based in Loudoun to make the list.
Fundraiser
Subway franchisee Vince Carbone is hosting an information fair and fundraiser for a group called Golden Retriever Rescue Education and Training on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Subway, 43150 Broadlands Center, Ashburn.

Ribbon cutter
Mr. Kabob opened recently in Sterling, 22510 S. Sterling Blvd., behind BB&T bank. Mr. Kabob serves lightly seasoned Pakistani dishes using all fresh food – nothing frozen or canned. The chef, Shahid Khan, previously ran the kitchens of two Arlington restaurants -- the Food Factory (one of the first kabob restaurants in the area, which opened in 1984) and Kabob Palace. Curry recognized
Judy Curry, co-founder and vice president of marketing for Curry’s Auto Service in Sterling, was named one of the 2009 Women Who Mean Business by The Washington Business Journal. She and 25 others will be recognized Nov. 18 at an awards banquet at The Four Seasons in Washington, D.C. TMG Construction
Purcellville-based TMG Construction Corp. has merged with Ahtna Engineering Services LLC to form AKHI Construction LLC. The acronym represents the company's SBA 8(a) status as native Alaskan and native Hawaiian enterprises. Ahtna Engineering Services was based in Anchorage, Alaska. AKHI Construction now operates out of Springfield, performing civil infrastructure and construction from a $35 million federal contract.
BB&T
BB&T Corp. elected K. David Boyer Jr. to its corporate board Oct. 27. Boyer, co-founder and chief executive officer of information services company GlobalWatch Technologies Inc. in McLean, joined the corporate board after serving 11 years on BB&T's advisory board for Washington, D.C.
Associated Builders

The Associated Builders and Contractors celebrated the groundbreaking of its Virginia chapter headquarters and Training Facility Oct. 27 at 42680 Trade West Drive in Dulles. The building was built according to LEED Gold Certification. The event was attended by Virginia delegates and Loudoun supervisors. Supervisor Andrea McGimsey (D-Potomac) announced the building's green features, including a water reduction of about 44 percent compared to a typical building and an energy reduction of about 17 percent. More than 75 percent of the construction waste will be diverted from landfills.
