Cluck it up to another odd request
A recent article I wrote detailing odd constituent requests received by Loudoun officials has resulted in me receiving an odd request of my very own.
The article, “Dear supervisor, I need bubble gum,” ran in the Aug. 5 Loudoun Times-Mirror and shared some of our nine supervisors' stories about constituent requests that could be describes as ... unusual.
The odd request I received Aug. 10 was the result of a story told to me by Sterling Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio.
From the article:
Phone calls on chickens may seem odd in suburban Loudoun, but a couple are expected each year by Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling).
“Someone gets a chick for Easter and it become a chicken,” he said. “Then what?”
It's a paltry problem, but inevitably, Easter's feathery favors raise this question, “Are chickens illegal?”
Delgaudio went on to describe the problems with trying to keep chickens as pets in residential areas. Dogs, cats and roosters were among the leading problems, but there are a million more, Delgaudio said.
He closed his story by saying, “We're not anti-chicken.”

Enter my odd request story:
A representative from the Chick-fil-A in Sterling off of Route 7 called to ask if the store could use Delgaudio's “We're not anti-chicken” declaration and the supervisor's photo that ran with the article.
Delgaudio is a regular customer of the Sterling Chick-fil-A restaurant, said the rep. When I asked what the photo and quote would be used for, I was told Chick-fil-A would like to immortalize the politician and his pro-poultry proclamation by framing and hanging his image and quote in up in the restaurant.
An endorsement from Delgaudio is not something that I'm allowed to OK for use, I told the Chick-fil-A-er. I suggested, and she agreed, calling Delgaudio and asking for his go ahead would be best for this odd request.
“That's so funny,” said Delgaudio when I asked him what he thought of the idea. “I would do it. McDonald's would be mad at me.
“I don't know if it would help Chick-fil-A; but if it would, I'd do it.”
Delgaudio said Chick-fil-A's chicken-salad sandwich is “an every-other-day mandatory [lunch] for me.”
If there is an unveiling of this tribute, I will totally be there.
