Frank Howard to open Dulles LL

Once a tape-measure home run specialist and still a giant of a man, Middleburg resident and former Washington Senator Frank Howard will be at the Opening Ceremonies of the Dulles Little League in Ashburn.

Here's the press release:

WHO:             Baseball legend, Frank Howard, will be on hand to greet parents and kids

WHAT:           Dulles Little League Opening Day

WHEN:           Saturday, April 18, event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Howard will arrive at 9:30 a.m. and will be available at the Kincora tent onsite.

WHERE:        Greg Crittenden Memorial Park, 21401 Windmill Drive, Ashburn, Virginia 20147 (corner of Ashburn Farm Parkway and Windmill Drive)

INFO:             Frank Howard’s appearance has been arranged by baseball supporters of Kincora, a proposed mixed-use village at the corner of routes 7 and 28, in Loudoun County, Virginia.  The project includes a 5,500 seat minor league ballpark.

Background on Frank Howard:   Howard played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1958-1964, Washington Senators (1965-1971), Texas Rangers (1972), and Detroit Tigers (1972-1973).  In LA, where he won the World Series, Howard was known as “Hondo.”  In Washington, he blasted home runs for the Senators and stood out like a giant compared to his smaller (and less talented) teammates, earning him the nickname, “The Capital Punisher.”  He was ranked 5th in the MLB between 1962-1971 for most home runs with 320, and 8th for highest slugging percentage with .511. He was also selected for four All-Star Games from 1968 to 1971.

About Kincora:   Kincora is a proposed 424-acre mixed-use community located at Routes 7 and 28 in Loudoun County.  The project includes a proposed 5,500 seat minor league ballpark and adjacent playing fields.  In addition to office, supportive retail and apartments, the project includes a 167-acre park, trails, a heron rookery observation deck, performing arts center, and a $75 million road network that will alleviate congestion on routes 7 and 28.   All paid for without tax payer money.  For more info:  www.kincora-va.com.
