Last year 136 people registered to walk for shelter. This year our new Student Board of Directors Abigail and Mandy are reaching out to all 10 Loudoun County High Schools with the intent of convincing 100 students to walk with GSA. The GSA has a goal of registering 500 men, women and children to walk the 1.2 mile route commencing from Douglass School Pavilion on the corner of Sycolin Road and East Market Street. Going west on East Market to Loudoun Street, then on to King Street, through historic Leesburg, back to East Market, past the Loudoun Times Mirror, then over to Harrison Street past the Government Building and back to the Douglass School.

The GSA maintains offices on Ashburn Road in Ashburn Village, a family shelter in Arcola, an emergency shelter and transitional home in North Leesburg, and a house for homeless pregnant women in Purcellville. However there are two other programs that are outside the emergency shelter and transitional housing programs.
These are Resources & Referrals and Outreach Services. Resources & Referrals occur when we do not necessarily have the service folks need - such as a month’s rent, help with utilities, groceries on a regular basis, or shelter for men etc. In these cases our case manager’s talk with individuals by telephone and connect them with those resources or refer them to an organization which provides this kind of service. Outreach Services occur when someone calls us with needs, but not necessarily housing. Our case managers will meet with them and provide those services that we are able to provide such as counseling, getting a bus ticket home, diapers, groceries from our food pantry, a gas card, food gift card, thrift store voucher, or job search assistance.
