Bob Bennett in Concert August 8 at Smith Chapel
Smith Chapel UMC of Great Falls would like to extend a cheerful invitation to join their congregation for the final two free concerts in a series of summer music events. The last two concerts will be held each second Saturday in August and September. The schedule is as follows:
Aug. 8— Bob Bennett, 6:30 PM (from Costa Mesa, CA)
Sept. 12 — Songs for Danny, 4:30 PM (Local Artists, Food & Song)

Smith Chapel wanted to do something for the community that only a family Church like theirs can do: provide great music in an intimate and worshipful setting.
Smith Chapel United Methodist has been a vibrant, loving congregation nestled among the mighty oaks of Great Falls since 1890 when the family of Jesse and Lucine Smith devoted their
life to this Church. Though passersby may not notice all that’s happening, the congregation is doing great things in the name of Christ. Over the years, Smith Chapel has established themselves as a historic chapel providing a beautiful, quaint setting for couples to exchange vows and begin their new life together. They actively support many missions, but continually look for ways to be involved in the local community and faithfully minister God’s word. The congregation is truly a family here at Smith Chapel.
Each concert is presented as a gift to the community. Tickets are free but the venue is small and intimate.
PLEASE NOTE: These events are all scheduled for outdoors unless there is inclement weather. Please bring a folding chair, cushion, or blanket for your comfort. Tickets are free, but Smith Chapel encourages you to order tickets well ahead of the event as space is limited. Please order early! Aug. 8— Bob Bennett, 6:30 PM
Bob Bennett was born in Downey, California, in 1955. He picked up his first guitar at age nine and formed a rock 'n' roll band in high school. In the late seventies he converted to Christianity and his songwriting began to reflect his newfound faith. His career was launched with the release of his 1979 folk-style debut recording First Things First. Three years later came Matters of the Heart, a recording Contemporary Christian Music Magazine voted 1982's "Album of the Year," ranking it among the top 20 contemporary Christian albums of all time. Soon after the release of his next recording, Non-Fiction, he served as opening act on Amy Grant's “Unguarded” tour.
Lord of the Past, A Compilation followed, with its title song reaching number one on the Christian radio charts in early 1990, followed by his second number one song, "Yours Alone." Later that year Bob joined Michael Card on his "The Way of Wisdom" tour, performing in front of sold-out audiences across the country. Songs from Bright Avenue was released in 1991, a collection of songs he wrote while struggling with the dissolution of his marriage.
The years that followed were a time of emotional healing, regrouping and moving forward with his life. Recently, Bob has found acceptance in the mainstream folk music scene, while performing in music clubs near his home in Southern California.
Sept. 12 — Songs for Danny, 4:30 PM
This September 12, we will gather for our sixth annual "Songs for Danny" concert. The concert was first held to aid one of our members (Danny Sullivan) with medical expenses incurred for treatment of cancer. Danny was there for the first one, but he went home to be with the Lord the next year.
Danny had a great heart for the mission of the church, so we decided to continue holding the concert each year to take a special offering for missions. The event has grown and expanded into a picnic as well and is a special time for all of us. We will have a small group of local musicians including Danny's daughter, Chrissie Dalton to provide the music that evening.
Last year we instituted the Danny Sullivan Mission Fund which is used to give mission-ships to any lay people embarking on short-term, Christian mission trips. If you, or anyone you know, is planning to serve in this way and would like to apply for a "Missionship," please contact Smith Chapel.
Our "Songs for Danny" Picnic and Concert will begin with some great food at 4:30 PM. The food is free, and the music inspiring. Please be prepared for a free-will offering for the Danny Sullivan Mission Fund that will be taken during the concert.
