Fall for the Book in Loudoun
The Fall For the Book Festival is Northern Virginia's oldest and largest celebration of literature and the arts, with events at George Mason University and the surrounding region. There are several events in Loudoun County on Sept. 21.
When: 10 a.m., Sept. 21
Who: Young adult novelist Susan Beth Pfeffer
Where: Lodoun County High School -- open to students only
Pfeffer, author of more than 60 books for children and young adults, will discuss her latest novels "Life as We Knew It" and "The Dead and the Gone."
This event is part of the festival's High School Reads program.
When: 2 p.m., Sept. 21
Who: Memoirist E. Ethelbert Miller
Where: Waddell Theater, Northern Virginia Community College, 1000 Harry Flood Byrd Highway, Sterling.
A writer, educator and literary activist, Miller will read excerpts from his recent memoir, "The 5th Inning."
When: 5:30 p.m., Sept. 21
Who: Michael Sims
Where: Waddell Theater, Northern Virginia Community College, 1000 Harry Flood Byrd Highway, Sterling.
Sims takes readers back to the era of legendary thieves A.J. Raffles, Colonel Clay, Simon Carne and Get-Rich-Quick Wallingford with his new anthology "The Penguin Book of Gaslight Crime: Con Artists, Burglars, Rogues and Scoundrels from the Time of Sherlock Holmes."
When: 7:30 p.m., Sept. 21
Who: Young adult author L.M. Elliot.
Where: Eagle Ridge Middle School, 42901 Waxpool Road, Ashburn.
As part of the Middle School Reads program, Northern Virginia native Elliot reads from and discusses her new book "A Troubled Peace," the sequel to "Under a War-torn Sky."
